AI providers and lanes

The administrator. Changing the provider works only in the office.

  • To change the provider: the new provider’s API key.
  • Know the rule for your data: may a provider keep it or train on it, and where may it be processed?
  1. Open Administration, sub-tab General, panel People and access, and press Change AI provider.
  2. Choose the Billing mode, the Provider and the Model ID, and enter the key.
  3. Press Save provider. The box restarts its AI part: “Starting the assistant”.
  4. The model lanes now hold the new provider’s default models. Go to Model lanes and press Apply to installed packages.

The choices are explained on AI providers.

The panel Which AI providers may see your data is on Administration, sub-tab Packages. “Every model request of every package goes only to providers that meet this rule.” A run that cannot meet it is refused before any data leaves the box.

  1. Under What providers may do with your data, choose one option.
  2. Under Where your data may be processed, choose one option.
  3. Press Save data rule.
What providers may do Meaning
Never kept, never trained on (default) “Only providers that neither keep your data nor train on it (zero data retention).”
Never trained on “Only providers that never train on your data. They may keep it for a while, for example for abuse monitoring.”
Any provider, may keep and train on your data “Any provider. Some keep your data and train their models on it.”
Where Meaning
Any country (default) Providers in any country.
EU or Switzerland Only PHOENIQS (Switzerland) or a model on this box. OpenRouter lanes are refused.
Switzerland only Only PHOENIQS (Switzerland) or a model on this box. Every other lane is refused before any call.
On this box only Only a model running on the box. “No local model ships yet: runs are refused.”

“Packages that read or write your code or knowledge, or use stored credentials, always run at least ‘never trained on’.”

To keep your data in Switzerland:

  1. Get an API key from PHOENIQS.
  2. Change the provider to PHOENIQS (Switzerland) with Billing mode Own key (see above).
  3. Set the data rule’s Where your data may be processed to Switzerland only, and save.
  4. Check under Model lanes that every lane shows a PHOENIQS model and meets the rule.

PHOENIQS bills you directly. The box does not meter it and does not show its cost per run.

A model lane decides which model a worker uses. Each worker has one lane permission. A worker without one runs in the fallback lane. The panel Model lanes is on Administration, sub-tab Packages.

  1. For Cheap, Standard and Frontier, choose a model from the list. For a model that is not listed, choose Other model… and type its id.
  2. Choose the Fallback lane (no lane permission).
  3. Press Save lanes.
  4. Press Apply to installed packages. The box names each worker it changed.
  5. Read the table: Lane, Model, and whether it meets the data rule. Press Check providers now to check again.

“An automatic model is not allowed: choose a fixed model for the … lane.” The box refuses models that pick a provider by themselves, because the data rule could not be checked.

  • The header’s status line shows the provider and model.
  • Each run card shows its lane, its model and its data rule.
  • A lane that does not meet the rule refuses its runs before any model call, with a message that names the lane.
