Step 1: Unbox and connect

Who can do this

The person who will be the administrator of the box.

The box (a small computer) and its power supply.
The Truchsess USB installer stick.
A network cable to your office network. This is the easiest way. Wi-Fi also works.
A laptop or phone with a web browser on the same office network.
Recommended: a screen and a keyboard for the box, for this step only. The screen shows the addresses and the certificate fingerprint you need. You can do everything else in the browser.

Connect the network cable and, if you have them, the screen and the keyboard.
Put the USB installer stick into the box.
Switch the box on. It starts from the stick. If it does not, open the computer’s boot menu and choose the USB stick. The computer must start in UEFI mode.
Wait until the box has a network address. With a cable this takes about half a minute.
On your laptop, open the address that the box shows. The screen of the box lists it. Without a screen, find the box in your router’s list of connected devices and open its address with http://.
The page Company OS Appliance setup opens. Look at the panel Access. Press Refresh if a value is missing.
No cable? See Use Wi-Fi instead of a cable first.
In the panel Target disk, choose the disk. Only built-in disks are shown.
In the panel Install, tick I understand this will erase every partition and file on the selected disk.
Press Erase and install.
In the box Erase and install?, press Yes, erase this disk and continue.
Wait until the panel Installation complete appears.
Write down the CEO bootstrap code shown on the page. It looks like ABCD-EFGH-JKLM. You need it once, in the next step.
Remove the USB stick. The box restarts by itself from its own disk.

If the box finds no cable network, it opens its own setup Wi-Fi. Its name starts with CompanyOS-Setup-. It has no password.

Join the setup Wi-Fi with your laptop or phone.
Open the setup page. Its address is shown on the box’s screen (row Setup AP URL).
In the panel WiFi, press Scan.
Choose your office Wi-Fi under Network, or type its name under Manual network name.
Enter the Password.
Press Connect WiFi. The setup Wi-Fi turns off after about 12 seconds.
Join your office Wi-Fi again with your laptop and open the address the page showed you.
Continue with step 8 above.

After the restart, the box is installed. Its address in your office is always:

Open it in your browser. You continue in First run.

The box makes its own security certificate. Your browser warns you once on each device, because it does not know this certificate yet.

Before you accept the warning, compare the certificate’s fingerprint (a long code of letters and numbers) with the one the box shows:

on the box’s screen, after the box has started: a line that begins with “Portal: https://myai.local/ certificate fingerprint”;
later, on the Sign in screen: “This appliance’s certificate fingerprint: …”.

If the two match, accept the warning. If they do not match, stop and ask support.

“No built-in installable disk detected.”: the box has no disk Truchsess can use. Ask support.
“The WiFi network ‘…’ requires a password.”: enter the Wi-Fi password and press Connect WiFi again.
“Install failed. …”: press Copy logs or Download log file in the panel Logs and send the file to support. The log contains your bootstrap code; do not share it with anyone else.
The installer appears again after the restart: open the boot menu and choose Linux Boot Manager or the internal disk.
